How Much Does Student Storage in Manchester Cost?

The storage rate is only part of the bill. Compare the full cost of storing your belongings and getting them back to your next address.

The cost of student storage in Manchester depends on how much you store, how long it stays there and how it gets to and from the facility. A small advertised weekly rate can be useful for comparison, but it is not a price for packing, moving and storing an entire student room.

Compare the complete period from your hall checkout to the day your belongings reach the next address. That is especially useful when a summer discount ends before you return, or a low storage price excludes collection and redelivery.

Advertised prices: a starting point for a quote

Price examples checked on 23 October 2026. These are public starting prices, not quotes obtained for a particular student, inventory or date. Availability, promotions and terms may change.

Provider and public exampleWhat to verify before booking
LOVESPACE student storage advertises boxes from £3.25 per month.Your box sizes, storage term, collection eligibility, return delivery and the applicable protection terms.
Big Yellow Manchester advertises a 9 sq ft locker from £6 per week, including a discount, and 50% off for up to eight weeks.Whether that small space fits your load, the later rate, goods protection, access arrangements and your complete rental period.
Access Manchester student storage offers a quote for the required space and advertises a student promotion. The selected unit, eligibility, discounted weeks, later price and any additional charges.

These products are not equivalent. A price for one qualifying box does not cover six larger boxes; a small locker does not necessarily hold furniture. Request quotes against the same inventory and dates before deciding which option costs less.

The charges to put on one comparison sheet

  • Storage: the rate for the correct number of items or unit size, including the price after any offer.
  • Collection: whether transport is included, plus any restrictions on floors, carrying distances or collection windows.
  • Return delivery: the destination, timing, number of items and any separate fee.
  • Materials: boxes, tape and protective wrapping, including delivery charges where relevant.
  • Protection: the required declared value, policy or protection product, exclusions and excess.
  • Access and exit: any extra access charges, minimum billable period or notice needed to stop paying.

Ask whether the final consumer price includes VAT where applicable. A refundable deposit belongs in your cash-flow plan, but should not be counted as a permanent cost unless it is retained for a valid charge.

A transparent 12-week budget example

The following figures are invented solely to demonstrate the arithmetic. They are not Frank’s prices, a provider quote or an estimate of the Manchester market.

Illustrative costCalculationTotal
Storage12 weeks × £18£216
Transport into storageOne hypothetical collection£60
Transport to the next addressOne hypothetical return journey£60
Boxes and packing materialsIllustrative allowance£15
Goods protectionIllustrative allowance for the period£18
Suitable lockIllustrative purchase£12
Complete illustrative budget£381

The £216 storage charge becomes £381 after the other assumed costs. Replace every number with the written figures for your own booking. If a provider includes collection or protection, do not add that charge again.

Check the discount period and billing unit

For a second arithmetic illustration, imagine a £24 weekly storage rate with the first eight weeks at half price. A 12-week stay would cost 8 × £12 plus 4 × £24: £192 for storage. Charging all 12 weeks at the introductory rate would understate it by £48.

Also distinguish a calendar month from four weeks. Big Yellow’s published FAQs describe four-weekly billing and a minimum charge linked to 14 days’ notice. Read the conditions for the selected offer and unit; do not assume every provider uses the same period.

When sharing storage can help

A larger unit shared with friends may be worth comparing, especially if you are travelling together. Agree who signs the storage contract, whose belongings are listed, who can access it and how any extension will be paid for. Check with the provider that the proposed arrangement is permitted.

Transport can change the calculation. Several addresses and different return dates may mean extra journeys. Request a price for the actual route rather than dividing a single-address quote between four students.

Get the storage and moving bookings to line up

Frank’s supplies transport into and out of student storage; customers arrange the storage facility separately. Send the inventory, collection floor, confirmed unit address, opening hours and proposed dates when requesting a quote.

Use our end-of-term moving guide to work back from checkout. If you can move straight to the next house, ask about a direct student move as well: avoiding an unnecessary storage period may simplify both the booking and the budget.

GOOD TO KNOW

A few useful answers.

What is the cheapest student storage in Manchester?

There is no single cheapest option for every load and date. Compare written totals for your exact belongings and full period, including collection, return delivery, protection and any post-discount rate. Advertised starting prices describe different products and are not directly interchangeable.

Does Frank’s storage moving quote include renting a unit?

No. Frank’s provides transport, and you book the storage with your chosen provider. Obtain both prices, confirm the facility’s access arrangements, and include the eventual journey from storage to your next address in the budget.

Do I need to pay for storage insurance?

Ask the provider what insurance or goods-protection arrangement it requires and what it costs for your declared value. Check cover and exclusions during storage and during transport separately. Do not assume a hall or household policy continues automatically.

Will a student discount last all summer?

Check the specific offer. Introductory discounts may cover only part of the stay, and eligibility or advance payment conditions can apply. Ask for the full price through your planned departure from storage, including any later standard rate.

Is a refundable storage deposit part of the cost?

It affects how much cash you need at the start. If it is fully returned, it is not a permanent cost of the booking. Keep it separate in your budget and read the provider’s conditions for deductions and refunds.
