University of Law Manchester Student Removals
University of Law students in Manchester do not move on a September-only calendar: the full-time PGDL starts here in January, May and September, so moves happen through the year.
The campus is at 2 New York Street, M1 4HJ, overlooking Piccadilly Gardens, and the university has no halls of its own in the city. It reserves a limited number of rooms with a partner provider for some students; everyone else finds their own room or flat.

Rooms at Manchester Student Village South
The University of Law reserves a limited number of rooms each year for first-year undergraduate, foundation year and international students through its nominated providers. In Manchester that is Manchester Student Village South, run by Dwell Student Living, which Dwell lists on Great Western Street, Rusholme, M14 4AH, and which the university describes as about 25 minutes by public transport or a 45 minute walk from the campus. The details are on the university's accommodation page.
Home students on the PGDL or the SQE courses are not on that list, so they find their own housing, and a January or May start means house hunting outside the usual September rush. The move into a private room or flat is usually one van load; the move out of a city centre flat is where the lift and the loading bay come into it, and our flat and apartment removals cover both.
January, May and September Starts
The full-time PGDL runs in Manchester from January 2027, May 2027 and September 2027, and again in January and May 2028. Manchester is one of only six University of Law locations with a full-time May start, alongside Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds and two London campuses.
That spreads University of Law moves across the year. A January starter moves in over Christmas and New Year, and a May starter at the end of April. We work to those dates as easily as September; book once your start date is confirmed.
Piccadilly Gardens and the Portland Street Bus Gate
The campus overlooks Piccadilly Gardens, which is about to be rebuilt. In September 2026 the council announced the scheme had been approved, with the main works due to start in November and the space due to be ready next year. Alongside it, the Portland Street bus gate runs from Minshull Street to Aytoun Street, at the edge of the Gardens, and is open only to buses, black cabs and cycles 24 hours a day, with a £70 penalty, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days. The council sets it out on its Portland Street bus gate page.
For a move to or from a city centre flat near New York Street, that rules out the obvious route along Portland Street, and the hoardings around the Gardens will change the side streets while the works run. We check the route in the week of the move.
Parking for a City Centre Move
Manchester City Council will suspend pay and display bays for domestic removals at £30 per bay per day, and will give a dispensation to park on single or double yellow lines during restricted hours at £30 per vehicle per day. Both need at least five working days' notice. Loading on yellow lines is allowed without either, as long as the van does not cause an obstruction and there is no loading ban, which is shown by yellow stripes on the kerb.
For a quick room move, loading on the line is usually enough. For a full flat that will take hours, reserving parking for the move is worth the £30.
What a University of Law Move Costs
One mover with a large van starts from £45/hour and two movers from £50/hour. A room or a studio is usually one van load, and the price depends on the floor, the lift and the walk from the van.
Every band we quote from is published on the rate card.
How to Book
- 1Tell us both addresses, with flat numbers and floors.
- 2Give us your course start date, or the end of your tenancy.
- 3Say whether either building has a lift or a loading bay that needs booking.
- 4If the move is long, decide whether to suspend a bay; the council needs five working days.
- 5We confirm the time, the van and the price in writing before the day.
What we cover and how your belongings are protected is set out on the insurance and compliance page.
