RNCM Student Removals

RNCM student removals are mostly about one building: Sir Charles Groves Hall, right next door to the college, where RNCM students take a large share of the 612 rooms.

The hall is owned and managed by Unite Students rather than the college. Rooms are let on 42 week contracts, and move-in for 2026/27 started the weekend before Welcome Week, on 19 and 20 September 2026. The college itself is at 124 Oxford Road, on the corner of Booth Street West, on the same corridor as the University of Manchester and Manchester Met campuses, and with the same bus gate.

Sir Charles Groves Hall

RNCM's accommodation page describes standard en-suite rooms grouped in fours around a shared kitchen and lounge, with Unite Students security on site around the clock and swipe card entry. The 2026/27 price was £221.07 a week on a 42 week let covering all term dates, and 51 week studio lets may be available directly from Unite Students. Offer holders who accepted by 10 February 2026 were reserved a room automatically; after that, rooms go first come, first served as cancellations come up.

RNCM does not publish the date a 42 week let ends, so check it with Unite Students before you book the move out. That date, not the end of the semester, is when the room has to be empty, and if the next place is not ready by then, summer storage covers the gap.

A Car Park the Van Will Not Fit

The hall has an underground car park off Rosamond Street West, but RNCM warns that its entrance and exit are 2.1 metres high and 2.3 metres wide, and suggests owners of larger vehicles use other car parks. A Luton will not clear it. Visitor parking there costs £5 a visit, and overnight parking is not allowed.

So an RNCM move loads from the street, and the time on the day goes on the walk from the van to the room. The college has step-free taxi drop-off points at its Booth Street West and Rosamond Street West entrances, which is a useful landmark when you tell us where you are.

Oxford Road and the Daytime Bus Gate

RNCM's own getting here page spells out the rule: general traffic is not allowed on the Oxford Road route between 6am and 9pm, seven days a week, and drivers should use Upper Brook Street and Princess Street instead. There is also no public parking at the college before 5pm on weekdays and Saturdays.

The nearest public car parks it names are the University of Manchester's Booth Street West car park, reached from Higher Cambridge Street, and the NCP at the Manchester Aquatics Centre on Booth Street East. For a family helping with the move, those are where the second car goes.

A Room With an Instrument in It

RNCM students can practise in their rooms from 9am to 9pm, and pianists can request a loan piano. That changes what a room move looks like. Instruments in cases travel like any other fragile item, but most players would rather carry their own, so tell us what is going in the van and what is going with you.

A loan piano is not yours to move, and we do not move pianos, so leave it for whoever supplied it. Music stands, amplifiers and boxes of scores are ordinary van cargo, and a room's worth is usually one student man and van load.

Term Dates for 2026/27

RNCM's 2026/27 year runs from Welcome Week on 21 to 25 September 2026, through Semester 1 from 28 September to 29 January, to the end of Semester 2 on 11 July 2027. That is a month after the University of Manchester's semester 2 ends on 11 June, so an RNCM move out falls later than most of the city's.

For students starting in 2027, RNCM's pre-arrival checklist puts Enrolment and Welcome Week on 20 to 24 September 2027. The move-in dates for the hall follow from Unite Students' contracts.

RNCM Renew

On 7 October 2026 RNCM launched RNCM Renew, a ten year capital programme to revitalise its campus. The first phase, from 2026 to 2030, puts more than £10 million into essential infrastructure, improving safety, accessibility, sustainability and resilience.

The college has not said the works affect the hall. If access around the Booth Street West building changes during a move, we will route around it on the day.

What an RNCM Move Costs

One mover with a large van starts from £45/hour and two movers from £50/hour. A room at Sir Charles Groves Hall is usually one van load, and the price depends on the floor, the walk from the van and how much there is.

Every band we quote from is published on the rate card.

How to Book

  1. 1Tell us your room and flat number at Sir Charles Groves Hall, or your house address.
  2. 2Give us the end date of your Unite Students contract.
  3. 3List any instruments, amplifiers or music stands, and say what you are carrying yourself.
  4. 4Tell us whether family are coming by car, so we can plan around the car parks.
  5. 5We confirm the time, the van and the price in writing before the day.

What we cover and how your belongings are protected is set out on the insurance and compliance page.
